| At breakfast her father tries to impress upon Satsuki the incredibility of her talent. The laboratory is going to show her how to further polish her skills. Satsuki doesn't want to go. She loves computers, but hates the people. She would rather be on her own. Her father answers it will be good for her, and besides, the scientists are coming for her tomorrow. Satsuki wants to know why her father gets to decide her future. Her father answers because he loves her. |

That night Satsuki sits conencted to her computer. She doesn't want to go anywhere. She hates it there with the boring people and the boring games. She asks the computer to help her. She hates her father, she wishes he were gone.
Across town her father's car is headed home for the evening. He talks with the scientists on the phone and asks them to take care of his daughter, not noticing that his red light has inexplicably turned green. At a nearby intersection another red light is forced green. A truck speeds through the intersection as her father crosses the road.... an ambulance siren wails in the night... |
| At school Satsuki uses her computer like mind to calculate her opponents chances of success during a tennis match. A few classmates cheer from the sidelines. Satsuki is not amused. It's not even a game when playing against humans, with their pitiful inability to learn. Humans waste each day on living, as a program on an endless loop. |
| On her ride home, futher musing on the failings of humanity as a whole, Satsuki is startled by the appearance of the scientists. They threaten Satsuki. She can either come to the lab with them, or they can tell the police about her abilities and their link to her father's tragic "accident". |
